Chimney Rock’s Elevator

An elevator shaft was added due to tourists disliking walking up the many sets of stairs. The shaft took about eighteen months to complete and had a grand opening that included opening of parking, a new trail, and a Sky Lounge. The elevator was one of a series of developments aimed at increasing the accessibility and ease of the park, thereby increasing the number of visitors The elevator would be renovated throughout the parks existence. After Chimney Rock was purchased by the state of North Carolina it was updated in 2011, which was its most recent renovation.  ¹
